Community Foundation Sees Above Average Returns, Increasing Assets for Community
The Benton County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa (CFNEIA), saw a 17.8 percent rate of return on its endowed assets in 2019, which is the highest return in the last 10 years. The 10-year average rate of return is 7.8 percent invested under professional advisement. “The 2019 rate of return demonstrates the potential power of endowment building,” said Liz Kurtt, vice president of finance and operations at the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa.
New Pup in Training to Join IOWA Service Dogs
Friday will be a big day for an 8-week-old puppy named Doc. He will fly from Texas to Des Moines to join IOWA Service Dogs. Doc will spend the next two years training to become a service dog for a “warrior”—a first responder or veteran affected by psychiatric or mobility issues due to their service to community or country. Along with his volunteer “guardian,” Doc will attend weekly classes to learn basic obedience and service skills that will eventually assist his warrior.

The following students from the Benton County area are among the students named to the Fall 2019 semester Dean's List at the University of Northern Iowa.To be included on the list, a student must have earned a grade point of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, while taking at least 12 hours of graded work during the semester. On the 4.0 system, an A is worth four points; a B, three points; a C, two points, and a D, one point.

The North Eden Willing Workers meeting was called to order at 5:15 on January 19th, 2020. It was started with an activity where all members colored and made valentines for residents at the Cedar Valley Ranch. The treasurers (treasurer’s)report was given, their is $1,375.85 in our account. Birthdays were celebrated next, and Aleric Weber was given a treat for his birthday.

Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa scholarship application process now open
The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa 2020 scholarship application period is now open and students may apply for scholarships available through the Foundation at www.cfneia.org/scholarships. The deadline to apply for 2020 scholarships is March 11. In 2019, CFNEIA awarded nearly $500,000 in scholarships to high school, college, and adult students.
Morningside announces December 2019 graduates
